Domenica 13 Dicembre 2009 ore 16:00, TobeUs insieme ad Ilaria Faccioli, illustratrice dello studio “Due mani non bastano”, organizzerà un workshop per bambini di ogni età, nel nuovo spazio 121 Libreria a Tempo, in via Savona 17/5 (zona Tortona). Al termine del laboratorio verrà estratta a sorte tra i partecipanti una macchinina TobeUs.

Dal 26 Novembre al 10 Gennaio TobeUs parteciperà alla mostra “Spaghetti Grafica 2” nel Triennale Design Museum. Una grande collettiva dedicata alla grafica italiana, che vede la partecipazione di un selezione di 95 studi fra i quali Due mani non bastano illustratori e grafici dell’intero progetto TobeUs.

Milano è la capitale del design. E se c’è un luogo a Milano rappresentativo per il design quello è la Triennale. TobeUs da questo mese è presente al book shop Skira all’interno della Triennale. Un grande onore! E tanto per non farci mancare nulla, vi ricordiamo che siamo anche alla Galleria Corraini di Mantova, altro storico nome del design italiano. Non per niente Munari affidava a loro le stampe dei suoi libri.

Head, heart and hands
A toy born from a project: a design as well as a life project.
Made of ceddar wood: aromatic, beautiful, natural.
An ecological toy: strong, simple.
A thought to be tought: respect, reuse, sustainability.
A toy for children, men and women of tomorrow.
We vaguely recall that playing is a serious matter, as designer Bruno Munari used to say.
That’s why we thought about a made of wood toy: sturdy, warm, indestructible. Few gestures to shape some recognizable models: the sports car, the saloon, the security van, the pick-up, the romantic one. The grain, the luscious cedarwood scent. Only the designer’s and the carpenter’s hands. A long lasting toy, to be preserved while it gets old. To be passed on to other children, to the sons of the sons, for ever and ever, being aware to give memories and valuables, not merely a toy.

Testa, cuore e mani
Un gioco che nasce da un progetto: di design e di vita.
Realizzato in legno di cedro del Libano: profumato, bello, naturale.
Un gioco ecologico: forte, resistente, semplice.
Un pensiero da insegnare: rispetto, riuso, sostenibilità.
Un gioco per i bambini, uomini e donne di domani.

Ci sembra di ricordare che il gioco è una cosa seria, come diceva Bruno Munari.
Abbiamo pensato a un giocattolo fatto di legno: forte, caldo, indistruttibile. La venatura e il forte profumo del legno di cedro. Solo la mano del designer e del falegname. Un gioco che dura, da conservare, da guardare invecchiare. Da passare ad altri bambini, ai figli dei figli, nel tempo. E la consapevolezza di regalare dei valori, non solo un gioco.

L’automobile “Reale” serve ai bambini per giocare al Re e alla Regina. D’accordo che oggi sarebbe più giusto pensare alla Limousine del Presidente di un paese democratico, ma bisogna ammettere che il gioco al Re e alla Regina rimane il più bello. Naturalmente due automobili uguali: una per il Re e una per la Regina.

With the toy car “Reale” the kids can play to be the King and the Queen. We all agree that today would be more usual thinking about the Limousine of a President in a democratic country, but we need to admit that playing thinking to be the King and the Queen is still more fascinating. Obviously two identical cars: one for the King and the other one for the Queen…

Il Camion dei Pompieri

Da bambini molti vogliono fare i pompieri, moltissimi i poliziotti, pochissimi il Papa. In più i pompieri hanno la bellezza del loro camion (… più in Inghilterra e in USA che non in Italia) lo sfolgorio del loro rosso, il timbro acuto delle sirene. In un mondo dove tutte le auto e i camion tendono ad essere uguali, l’auto/pompiere pare distinguersi con forza.

When we are children many of us would like to be firemen, so many more would like to be policemen, almost no one the Pope. Moreover, the firemen have the beauty of their truck (…more in England and in the United States than in Italy), their bright red, the high pitch of the sirens. In a world where all the cars and trucks tend to be the same, the firemen’s truck seems to be strongly different.

Fiorino nasce dall’umiltà dei lavori itineranti. E’ un moderno risciò che ospita profumi anziché sudore. E’ una piccola macchia colorata all’angolo di una via…lì fermo… mostra i sogni del momento. Chi passa sa già tutto questo e sorride.

Fiorino is born from street works humility. It is a modern rickshaw who hosts fragrances instead of sweat. It is a little coloured stain in a corner of a street…whom is there steady…showing the dream of the moment. Who pass already know everything about it and smile.

A 9 anni la mia prima creazione: una casa, una casa vera di mattoni in cui si poteva entrare e giocare, in cui c’era anche un caminetto. Crescendo, ho iniziato gli esperimenti coi mezzi mobili, all’interno dei quali volevo ricreare il senso di accoglienza del salotto di casa. Il Kar-a-Sutra, un’automobile sottilmente diversa, voleva evitare ogni riferimento alle roulottes, miniature spesso grottesche della mitica casa per le vacanze. Il Transporter Volkswagen, un salotto viaggiante, è stato testimone dei viaggi con la mia famiglia. Vi si poteva conversare, prendere un te, ascoltare musica, rilassarsi, assistere, osservando dai finestrini, allo spettacolo del viaggio, dei luoghi che incontravamo. Quando ho realizzato il modello per TobeUs forse avevo in mente questi ricordi: la casetta di mattoni del bambino, i salotti viaggianti dell’adulto.

When I was 9 my first creation: a house, a real house made of brick in which you could went in and play, there was also a little fireplace. Growing up, I’ve started the experiments with the vehicles, in which I tried to recreate the sense of welcome you can find in the living room. The Kar-a-Sutra, a car thinly different, whom would to avoid every references to the caravans, often freaky miniatures of the legendary holiday home. The Transporter Volkswagen in which I’ve travelled all around the world with my family, it was a mobile living room where you could chatting, take a cup of tea, listening to the music, relaxing or simply enjoying the landscape through the windows. When I realized the TobeUs model maybe I had this memories in my mind: the kid brick-case, the adult mobile living rooms.

La Nuvolari

Il mio modellino “Nuvolari” ha origine dal ricordo delle automobiline con cui giocavo durante gli anni ‘50 e anche delle “Mille Miglia” che andavamo a vedere sulle prime rampe che da Firenze portano verso la Futa. Quei modelli aereodinamici, nati dal Futurismo, sembravano promettere un futuro “a tutta velocità”, ma probabilmente erano soltanto il sintomo di un paese che si sentiva “in ritardo” rispetto al resto del mondo e affidava a Tazio Nuvolari il volante per un disperato recupero…”

“Nuvolari” comes from the memory of the little toys cars I used to play with during the Fifties, but also from “Mille Miglia Races” that we used to see in Florence. That aerodynamic models born from Futurism seemed to promise a future “with all speed”, but they, probably, were just the manifestation of a country who felt the delay compared to the rest of the world and put in Tazio Nuvolari hands the wheel for a desperate comeback…

La Sportiva is a dream machine made to enthuse the child that is within us. Its lines evoke the glorious granturismo cars from the Dolcevita. Its long hood hides a powerful engine that doesn’t contaminate.

Il Furgoncino Portavalori è un piccolo camioncino in legno profumato per trasportare i valori del legno e del saper fare tipico degli artigiani italiani.

The Furgoncino Portavalori is a little armoured van made in scented wood, transporting both the values of the wood and the typical experience of Italian artisans.

La Berlina è l’auto per eccellenza. Tre volumi e linee pulite, niente di più che l’icona dell’automobile, come quei disegni che tutti facciamo senza pensare quando siamo al telefono con una matita in mano. Un gioco che sembra sempre esistito e quindi dotato di quella familiarità che lo rende più vicino a tutti noi.

La Berlina is the car par excellence. Three volumes and clean shapes, no more than the car’s icon. The one everybody draw with pencil while speaking by phone. A toy everybody is familiar with because seems to exist since forever.

La Romantica è un oggetto emozionale, rimanda nelle sue linee arrotondate alle auto care alla Beat Generation. Un’unica linea trasforma un pezzo di legno di cedro del Libano in un oggetto del desiderio.

La Romantica is an emotional object that reminds the Bear Generation cars thanks to its rounded shapes. A line transforms a cedar peace of wood from Lebanon into a desire object.

Pickup è una macchinina giocattolo che riproduce in scala il concetto di pianale di carico tipico dei pickup fuoristrada. Questa tipologia si trasforma così in un piccolo giocattolo di design che consente ai bambini di caricare piccoli oggetti e di divertirsi a trasportarli.

Pickup is a toy car that reproduces the concept of off-road flatcar. This typology turns into a smart design toy that allows children to enjoy loading small objects and transport them.

TobeUs is craftsmanlike product, entirely handmade. A one size block of wood, a single cut that shapes the sports car, the romantic one, the pick-up, the saloon, the security van.TobeUs products are made of cedar of Lebanon: a dense, spicy and long-lasting wood. Its peculiar scent has a natural anti-moths effect. Wheels are made of mahogany: a hard, dense and yet easy to work wood showing also a very fine and precious grain. No paints are used on TobeUs toys.

TobeUs products are designed by Mario Bellini, Andrea Branzi, Odoardo Fioravanti, Alessandro Guerriero, Giulio Iacchetti, Italo Lupi, Alessandro Mendini and Matteo Ragni and handmade by Master Giovanni.

TobeUs is certified by the CE mark that guarantees quality and safety.

TobeUs è un prodotto artigianale, interamente realizzato a mano. Un blocco di legno sempre della stessa misura, un unico taglio che dà forma alla sportiva, alla romantica, al pick-up, alla berlina e al furgoncino portavalori.
I prodotti TobeUs sono in legno di cedro del Libano: aromatico e durevole. La sua caratteristica profumazione lo rende un naturale antitarme. Le ruote sono realizzate in mogano, legno duro, compatto e facile da lavorare, di finissima e pregiata venatura. Sui giochi TobeUs non sono utilizzate vernici.
